Instagram jumps into live
December was another exciting month in the live social space, as Instagram became the latest social platform to offer live video for users. As the second-largest social network behind Facebook and of growing importance for brands and influencers, Instagram’s jump into live video should continue to accelerate live adoption by content creators. At this point, all four major social platforms (Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, and Instagram) seem to be prioritizing their live offering in their strategic roadmap.
What Instagram’s Entry Could Mean
With the recent shift of brands and retailers turning to Influencers as major marketing channels (92% of consumers trust an Influencer over an ad or celebrity endorsement), Instagram Live could quickly become the new hub for Influencer-based brands in lifestyle industries such as Beauty, Food & Cooking, Fitness and Fashion. This should be of concern to YouTube, as it has been the platform of choice for the Influencer category over the last several years. YouTube will have to quickly accelerate and promote its live solution if it hopes to maintain this major growth category.

We celebrated with MGM Resorts International as they went live for their NYE Party #LiveFromLV! They used Socialive to create the first ever multi-location broadcast from the Vegas strip — incorporating 7 influencers spread across 7 MGM properties into one curated stream that was viewed by 2 Million viewers across Facebook, Twitter, and Periscope!
Dermalogica used Socialive to broadcast a live product reveal from their headquarters in LA, featuring leaders from within the organization including their Co-Founder and CEO. Using Socialive, they were able to create a high-quality and informative broadcast that featured pre-recorded footage and supplemental slides that illustrated the science behind their newest product.
